2023-2024 Course Descriptions

About Light House Reno Classes:

Light House Reno partners with homeschool families to offer an in-person, Christian academic program designed to reinforce and enrich your family’s homeschooling approach. We offer a variety of classes in both core and enrichment subjects for 3rd through 12th grade students. (See below for our unique 1st & 2nd grade program). Experienced teachers provide lessons and activities in the subject matter for about 50 minutes, once a week, on either Tuesdays or Thursdays. Grades and transcripts are not provided. Parents continue to be the director of their child’s education, providing learning and practice at home.

Classes for the 2023-2024 will also include extracurricular classes for 3rd – 12th grade students such as Spanish Level 1, P.E. classes like crossfit, basketball and beginner dance, Study Hall, Yearbook, Art, Debate Club and more! Descriptions for core classes are listed below!

Grade Levels: 1-2

Class: Primary Program

Curriculum: TBD

Description: Designed for 1st and 2nd grade level students, this half-day program reinforces your child’s academic foundation and prepares them to be better learners throughout their developmental years. This Christ-centered class builds their understanding in a variety of subjects,  including math, science, reading, writing, history, and geography. The class meets twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30am to 12:00pm. Parents have the option to enroll in one or both days. Math concepts will be pulled from Math-U-See Alpha & Beta level curriculum and used to reinforce understandings of adding, subtracting, place value, skip counting, time, etc. Science activities and experiments will allow your child to explore how the world works according to God’s design. Reading, writing, and basic grammar concepts will be reviewed through read alouds, independent reading, fluency games, and further emphasized during calendar time, bible time and history. For the 2023-2024 program, students will investigate American History and learn United States geography from Beautiful Feet Books.

Not sure if this is the right class for your 6-7 year old? Students will thrive in this class if they have already mastered some preschool and kindergarten level skills. In math, they should have already been introduced to reading and writing numbers, addition, and skip counting. In reading and writing, students should be able to write letters with correct pencil grip, make letter sounds, and read three letter words independently.

Grade Levels: 3-5
